I came across John P. Kotter’s Leading Change at the age of twenty-five, while being part of HSBC’s transition from Corporate Banking to Personal Banking. Three years later, I was headhunted by NDB Bank, which was looking to shift from a deeply rooted development banking culture to a dynamic commercial bank. Within a decade, we turned the bank upside down.

It was during this journey of transformation that I came across Lou Gerstner’s story of radical change at IBM, in the book Who Says Elephants Can’t Dance?. From switching from cricket to baseball at Royal College at age sixteen—and going on to captain the team and win the national title three times—to leading diverse change projects alongside some of the world’s top consultancies such as BCG, McKinsey, and A.T. Kearney, and now contributing to the National Project for Change and Transformation at the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, the path has been one of continuous evolution.
