Assumed IDB Chairmen of Sri Lanka

yasas_260602.jpg

In June 2026, I was asked to join Sri Lanka's Industrial Development Board as Chairman, and gave myself a way to measure it: PT214, a 214-day, dated project running to 31 December 2026. What comes after — standing up EITA, IDB's proposed successor — is a second, separate project

This page is the record of that work in three parts: SME Nexus, the national framework I stepped into mid-build; i5, the operating strategy I built for IDB itself; and NDB, the earlier chapter that taught me most of what I know about making an institution change its mind.

Regarding
Inquiring as

In May 2026, Sri Lanka published its first-ever National SME Strategy Framework — branded SME Nexus. It was mine to build, as Private Secretary to Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe — a fifteen-month collaborative process with the Ministry that the Deputy Minister himself called "a dream come true" at launch. Now, as IDB Chairman, I'm one of the institutions responsible for delivering pieces of it — Pillar 9 names IDB directly inside its financing architecture.

Eleven pillars, five strategic approaches, three implementation approaches — built for a sector that's already more than 75% of registered businesses, over half of GDP, and 45% of the workforce.

SME Nexus

I5

I built i5. Where SME Nexus is a national framework I stepped into, i5 is mine from the ground up — the operating strategy I designed for IDB the moment I took the chair: five pillars — Inspiration & Insights, Integration & Infusion, Industrial Services, Industrial Infrastructure, and Industrial Consultancy. I named it, structured it, and laid it out in full to UNDP Sri Lanka's Resident Representative, Azusa Kubota, in July 2026 — one operating frame that every division's work now sits inside, not a slogan for a single initiative.

The thinking underneath it: move beyond Business Thinking, to Enterprise Thinking, to Industry Thinking. Replace static SWOT analysis with SMART strategic action. Filter every idea through Suitability, Acceptability, Feasibility before it gets resourced.
